Applied Materials, Inc. (Applied) develops, manufactures, markets and services semiconductor and semiconductor-related fabrication equipment, providing nanomanufacturing technology solutions to the global semiconductor, flat panel display, solar and other industries. Customers for these products include manufacturers of semiconductor chips and wafers, flat panel displays and other electronic devices such as solar photovoltaic (PV) cells. Product development and manufacturing activities occur in North America, Europe and Israel. Applied's range of equipment and service products are technical and are sold through a direct sales force. The Company has four segments: Silicon, Fab Solutions, Display, and Adjacent Technologies. During the fiscal year ended October 29, 2006, the Company acquired Applied Films Corporation. In March 2007, Applied completed the acquisition of the assets and business of Brooks Software, a division of Brooks Automation, Inc.
